Health IT Today: 3 Ways Consumers Are Putting Pressure on Health Plans

A growing number of consumers are adopting and utilizing mandated APIs to access health plan data and apply that information to plan selection—and as a result, consumer needs and concerns are driving access to better and more affordable healthcare.

Consumers are also pressuring payers to collaborate more closely with providers to improve the prior authorization process, which remains a pervasive and burdensome challenge for the industry. At the same time, inflation and economic uncertainty have forced many larger national payers to re-enter the public market with more cost-effective products, in a bid to compete with smaller health plans.
